Default A little love for Carvin

Gotta give a little hand to Carvin. I bought a S400D, self contained PA from a guy back in August 09. So it's second hand. It also has a battery (motorcycle size)and charger that will allow it to run for several hours on battery alone. Some digital effects. 60w, 10" spkr, horn. Nice little setup for solo or jam session PA, as well as reasonable little guitar amp. 4 input mixer. All onboard.

In October, the charger and effects section quit working. I emailed a techie and we went back and forth troubleshooting until January. The amp part still worked, so I could still use it - just had to be plugged in and no FX.

He did some checking and even though I am not the original purchaser, Carvin agreed to warranty it. It would have been under warranty when it quit functioning properly. So I sent back the chassis, they repaired it in two days and now it is shipping back to me. No charge. EXCELLENT!

All it cost was the shipping to Carvin. That is GOOD Customer service. Carvin will get more of my business in the future. They make nice guitars too. Offered as custom built or even in kit form. If you haven't looked at Carvin, do so by all means. Nice US-built stuff.

Randy

Yeah, that's one of the reasons Carvin has been around since 1946.

Nice stuff, Joe. But I hope they are not in a real museum - I hope you get to play them. I wouldn't mind having them build me a strat-ish guitar someday. The prices really aren't bad at all, for a custom guitar.

The best amp I ever had was a Carvin. Had a 30W 112 back in the mid 80's. The band I was in at the time rented an old theater as a practice hall. I added a 112 cabinet to my combo and it filled the empty theater at half volume. I had no problem competing with drums, bass & keyboards. With a Boss CE-2 in front of it I could squeeze out some great Santana tones.

I had a Carvin amp back in the '70s that fell under the "Wish I still had it", and the "If I knew what I had then, I'd kept it!" catagories.

A guy I used to be in a band with had a Carvin axe -- the star shaped one, I think it's called a V220 -- and it was a killer instrument.

Take a look through all the catalogs from 1955 to 2005.

Those are just a few of my Carvin things. They are not in a museum, but just hanging around here with me. I have a kitchen full of Fender amps.

They do build high quality amps and guitars. The amps are PC boards, but most newer stuff is anyway. Nothing beats their guitars for great low action, and options.

I've got a Squier Strat with an H/S/S configuration loaded pickguard. Wonderful all-around pickups with adjustable polepieces.

There are 4 GT-12 speakers coming to my house via UPS today that are going to be installed into two 2-12 cabs for a just-acquired early model Peavey Standard 240 head.
