I have a few 51s and follow the ebay auctions as well. $125-$150 is the going price, although I did find one at my local Guitar Center last summer for $99, and it was my main guitar until I got my 50s Classic Player Strat. I actually have created a spreadsheet of 51 auctiuons since Jan 1, 2010, and I have noticed that in the past two months, almost 10 percent of the 51s "sold" were later relisted, so they were obviously bid up by the owners using another ebay ID. Nice job on policing shill bidding ebay....
It is worth searching the shops in your area, as well as Craigslist as deals can be had, plus you can try out the guitar before you buy. I am always a bit leery of purchasing a 51 sight unseen, as with many Squier models, the workmanship varied, esp the fretwork. Some play like a dream, and others have frets that are so unfinished you can cut your hand on them.
Yes, this decal image was created by a 51 Modders Forum member, and the files are listed for free on the forum. Anyone can download them and print their own decal. All this means is that the owner sanded off the old Squier logo, and applied the Mojocaster decal they made. If anything, this makes the guitar un original, and should reduce the value as a collectors item.
Attached is a pic of my blonde I got for $99. It has a Carvin humbucker in the bridge.
